CHAPTER 8 "Reggie and Audrey Possum Have a Picnic"
The GollyGum River rises in the MillyMolly Mountains where it tumbles down the rocky slopes covered in Toffee Trees. It races through deep ravines where the Quirky Quolls discuss worldly affairs such as why the Wobbley Wombat has such a hairy nose.
Beyond the deep ravines, the GollyGum River clatters through the Happy Hills where the Weary Wallaroo sleeps in warm forests and every night the Fire Flies cover the river banks with fairy lights.
Eventually the GollyGum River reaches the coastal plains where it slows down to meander through the grassy banks before flowing into Barnacle Bay. This coastal section of the river is where the Croc family lives. It is very beautiful, but because it is flat, you can't see very far. So The Lookout is a very popular place to have a picnic. Here you can relax and study the view across the beautiful coastal plains, while sharing a nice cup of tea with your friends.
Which is exactly what Reggie and Audrey Possum were doing on this warm afternoon. Reggie had parked the red car on a safe flat area while Audrey chose a good spot to sit and unpack the picnic basket. But what with the noisy conversation and the loud stirring and slurping of tea, the possums completely failed to hear the heavy tread of a very large scaly sort of creature who at that moment was sneaking past.
Unfortunately Reggie left the car door open, which was generally agreed to be a bad mistake, because it was too easy for someone to get into the car while you weren't looking. Not that Crikey would do such a thing would he? After all, he did promise Mumsie he would only 'look' at the red car.
