CHAPTER 7
"Doctor Beak Visits Mumsie"

Dr.Beak is a very good friend of Mumsie, and has known her for many many years. He keeps an eye on the family's health and other general aspects of their welfare. Being a member of the famous Plover family, Dr. Beak specialises in cleaning and repairing crocodile teeth.

Dr. Beak was puzzled at seeing Crikey running so fast, and so far away from the GollyGum River. The last time Crikey had left the river, the streetlight outside the GollyGum School disappeared in strange circumstances.

Nobody ever knew what had really happened but the pole was found under the bridge covered with teeth marks. Ever since then there has been a faint glow coming from under the water, which can't be fully explained. For some reason or other nobody wants to actually swim down and have a look, even though a lot of comics and travel books have been disappearing from the GollyGum Library. Everyone is far too polite to ever mention it to the Croc family.

So Dr. Beak decided to fly over to the river and see if Mumsie knew anything about Crikey and where he was off to at such a pace. The word 'fly' is a bit short to fully describe the way Dr Beak ploughs through the air. Various experts have different theories about his actual flying technique, but most agree that it is quite amazing that he even gets off the ground. The fact that Dr. Beak manages to stay in the air at all is a common point of discussion around the district.
