CHAPTER 6
"A Strange Way of Walking"

I am sorry to report that Mumsie's suspicions about Crikey and the red car were totally justified. All that innocent talk about just off for a little 'walk' was far from the real truth.

In fact Crikey was spotted by Dr Beak racing up the hill to The Lookout as fast as his short fat legs could could carry him. Apparently his feet were going so fast that at times they just became a complete blur. If this was supposed to be 'walking' it was a very strange example of such a thing.

Up in front of Crikey, going at quite a fast speed was the red car, and Crikey was giving it his best to try and keep up. They say that crocodiles can be very fast over a short distance, but Crikey was so full of passion that he was keeping up a rattling pace for quite a long run. He could probably become a famous athlete if he tried.

Reggie Possum had 'put his foot down' to give the car extra power so it could climb the steep slope up to The Lookout. The possums were looking forward to sharing a nice cup of tea and probably a lemon myrtle flavoured biscuit which were quite a well known delicacy along the GollyGum River. No doubt Reggie was also looking forward to prattling on about how smart and rich he was, and Audrey was looking forward to being very impressed once again.

It's hard to say what Crikey had in mind. He told Mumsie that he would only 'look' at the car if he happened to come across it. But I don't think anyone would really believe that bit of nonsense.
