CHAPTER 5
"Crikey Decides to Go For a Walk"

Once more the noisy possums drove past Mumsie and Crikey. The red car didn't seem to be going very fast but the engine made a lot of noise. I don't think Reggie Possum was a very good driver. He didn't seem to be able to change gears very well. Mind you, the gear change on a new car can be a bit stiff.

However, this time Crikey didn't ask any more questions of Mumsie. Instead he suddenly decided to go for a 'walk'. Now there are various sorts of walks you could go on. You could go on 'nature walk' and look at the birds. You could go for a 'walk with the dog' to get some exercise. You could go for a 'morning walk' to get the papers and some fresh bread.

But the fact that Crikey, a water loving creature, suddenly decided to go for a 'walk' for no particular reason was very suspicious. That's what Mumsie thought anyway. She immediately suspected that the 'walk' had something to do with the nasty red car.

Crikey twiddled his fingers and tried to sound sweet and innocent as if he had never done anything wrong in his whole life. It was just going to be one of those trouble free, general sort of 'walks' where you might look at birds, or even get a little exercise for the health.

I'm afraid that Mumsie had grown to become a little suspicious about the passions of Crikey, and she didn't believe for a minute that this was going to be one of those innocent sort of walks.
