CHAPTER 4
"The Possums Make More Noise"

Before continuing we should learn a little more about Crikey's Passions. Crikey is a young crocodile who has particularly good eyes and ears. He can see a tadpole wriggling on the other side of the GollyGum River, and can hear the Bubsy Birds breathing softly in their warm nest at night.

This has always caused him a bit of difficulty as he tries to relax in the depths of the GollyGum River, or attempts to be the first player to fall sleep in one of Snippy's endlessly boring games of Monotony. His strong scaly body may be trying to relax but his mind is constantly alert as he hears and sees things and tries to figure out what they are.

Of course almost anything has to be more interesting than Monotony, so Crikey's agile mind is always being distracted. Which is why he gets very passionate about new things. It is also why his passions don't last very long, which is just as well because they almost always land him in trouble.

Mumsie Croc was a bit concerned when Reggie Possum drove past again making even more noise and yelling at Audrey who cheerfully yelled back. Mumsie doesn't have a high opinion about the 'hot little hairy creatures'. But she could see that Crikey was being distracted again and hoped that this wouldn't suddenly become a new deep passion.

When Crikey asked even more questions and began to reveal an unhealthy interest in the red car, Mumsie tried to discourage him, but she didn't seem to be very successful.
