CHAPTER 3
"Crikey Discovers the Red Car"

One day as Mumsie was relaxing with her fishing line by the GollyGum River, the peace and quiet was suddenly shattered by a new, disturbing noise. It was made by the powerful engine of a shiny red car that Reggie Possum had just bought for himself.

Now you should know that Reggie is one of those rather 'uppity' sort of possums, full of his own importance and not aware of much else. He has obviously done very well for himself, and has an important job with lots of money to spare for his own pleasure.

Reggie was out for a drive in his new red car showing it off to anyone who cared to take any notice. In the passenger seat was Audrey Possum. Audrey is one of those 'easily impressed' sort of possums. She thinks the car is simply wonderful. She also thinks Reggie is simply wonderful. Audrey thinks the ride she is having in the red car is simply wonderful. It fact it is quite easy for Audrey to think that almost anything is simply wonderful.

Mumsie stared at the red car in disbelief as it noisily passed her peaceful fishing spot. She doesn't think the red car is simply wonderful at all. In fact she thinks it is very nasty and a waste of the Earth's resources. She also thinks that the noise it makes is nasty and that the possums are complete twits.

However the sound of the red car's engine reached Crikey's ears, way down in the hidden depths of the GollyGum River. He was instantly entranced by it. It enticed him up to the surface where he saw the bright shiny red paintwork of the car and the black wheels.

Crikey had never seen a car before and the loud noise, the rich colour and the mesmerising movement sent him into a deep passion. Crikey fell madly in love with the red car and started to asks Mumsie a lot of questions.
