CHAPTER 17
"Well What About The Mess?"

Ratcop was beginning to lose the argument. He was getting a bit rattled and his voice was becoming more anxious and squeaky.

The idea that Crikey could be seen as a Hero for wrecking the red car was just too maddening for words. But Ratcop was too experienced to try and argue the point. He had a number of other very good reasons as to why Crikey should be taken away and locked up in the GollyGum Police Station.

Ratcop knew his case was getting weaker by the moment, but one thing you could definitely say about Ratcop was that he didn't give in easily. If there were rules to uphold, then Ratcop would do his best to uphold them.

Mumsie, on the other hand knew she had Ratcop rattled. He was just one of the insignificant little hot marsupials, for which Mumsie had no time at all. So she waited to see what else Ratcop could dig up as an argument.

Although Mumsie loved the Quiet Life she quite enjoyed Ratcop's visits, because it gave her an opportunity to sharpen her wits. In her youth she had been quite a savage member of a powerful debating team which had included a King Brown Snake who was missing half a fang after a disagreement with an adjudicator, and a Crow with a bad attitude towards authority.

I don't like Ratcop's chances of winning this argument. But it should be interesting watching it unravel.
